Imperial Infrastructure & Civil Engineering

The Khmer Royal Highway was elevated 2 to 4 meters above the monsoon floodplain using packed earth and laterite stone blocks. Built at regular intervals along the route were 17 stone fire-houses (Dharmasala) serving as royal guest sanctuaries and medical stations for travelers.

Ancient Stone Bridges

The route features extraordinary multi-arched sandstone bridges such as Spean Praptos, which spans over 70 meters across the Chinit River. The bridge features 21 narrow arches adorned with nine-headed Naga serpent balustrades.
